The Riverhead Free Library offers a variety of volunteer programs for teens in grades 6-12 where they are able to earn community service hours. The teens will be given a certificate of completion at the end of each program which states the number of hours that were completed. Please view our newsletter and online calendar for additional community service opportunities.

Teen Reviewers

Looking for more community service hours?  The Teen Department is looking for teens in Grades 6-12 that are willing to read and review award winning books.  Stop by the Teen Services desk in the Teen Loft and ask to speak to a Librarian. Earn 3 hours of Community Service.

Teen Artist of the Month

The Teen Department at the Riverhead Library is looking for teens in Grades 6-12 that are interested in drawing, painting, photography, and Photoshop.  Stop by the Teen Services desk in the Teen Loft and ask to speak to a Librarian. Earn 4 hours of Community Service.

Teen Recycling Challenge

In honor of Earth Day, the Youth and Family Services Department will be running a recycling challenge for teens in Grades 6-12 from Saturday, March 1st to Wednesday, April 30th. Teens are encouraged to bring bottles and cans to any local bottle drop during this time. Any teen patron who wishes to participate should save their receipts for March and April and either bring them in to show a librarian in Youth Services, or email photos of them to ContactYFS@riverheadlibrary.org. Librarians will keep track of each participant's totals, and they will be awarded volunteer hours based on the following metric, for a max of 10 hours per month:

20 containers = 1 volunteer hour

40 containers = 2 volunteer hours

60 containers = 3 volunteer hours

etc.

Hours will be awarded at the end of the challenge period. Additionally, the participant with the most items logged will win a Grand Prize: a 30oz Stanley Quencher!

Smiles to Go

Earn community service by coloring lovely pictures from Color A Smile and sending them to those in need! Earn 1 hour of community service.

Cards for Hospitalized Kids

Earn community service by decorating cards for sick children. Earn up to 4 hours of community service per month.

Bookmarks With Purpose

Earn community service by decorating bookmarks for our homebound patrons. Earn up to 2 hours of community service per month.
