Sprouts in jars and pots

What is the Seed Library?

The Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that are available to plant at home. Our collection changes seasonally. Therefore, different seeds will be available at different times.

Checking Out Seeds

To be able to use the seeds in our seed catalog, a person must have a Riverhead Free Library Card. Households may request up to five (5) different varieties of seeds twice a month.

Request Online

Seeds can be requested using an online request form. You will be notified when they are ready for pick up. The requested seeds may be picked up in-person at the Adult Reference desk.

Request in Person

A patron can stop by the Adult Reference desk to view the seed catalog binder full of current available seed varieties. The next step is to fill out a paper request form and give the form to an Adult Reference Department Staff Member. The seeds will be given to you to take home for planting. The availability of the seeds will change from month to month.

Should Seeds be Returned?

No, you do not have to return seeds. Out of an abundance of caution, we are currently not accepting seeds for sharing.
