The prevalence of loneliness and isolation today is a great threat to the health and well-being of our society. Social disconnection is far more common than we realize and is associated with greater risks of cardiovascular disease, dementia, depression, anxiety and a host of other diseases. Dr. Amanda Mackillop, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, will discuss how loneliness impacts both us personally, and our collective well-being. She will talk about the steps we can take both within our personal lives, and within our community, to achieve emotional well-being.
This program is sponsored by Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and hosted by the North Shore Public Library.
